[In the Outlaw's 'bat cave' Will looks up]
Will: [out of breath] The King is coming.
Much: To Nottingham?
[Will nods]
[Cut to Locksley Manor, Guy's Quarters]
Marian: Something has changed, the King is returning.
[Cut back to the cave]
Will: Gisbourne is saying-
Robin: Gisbourne is saying he will marry Marian.
[Cut to Knighton Hall, Marian is hitting pylon with sword]
Marian: I promised to marry him when the King returned
Robin: Under duress
Marian: Yes under duress. To save my life and my Father's.
[Cut to a little later, by the pylon]
Robin: [shouting] You do not love him!
Marian: [shouting] He has qualities!
[Cut to Gisbourne showing Marian off from Locksley, Much and Robin in washing lines with Thornton.]
Robin: [serious] Gisbourne was unwell, or so he said. The truth is he went to the holy land, and tried to kill the king.
Thornton: The physician came, everyday.
[Cut to Pitts walking into Batley street]
Robin: [voice over] Who was this physician?
Thornton: [voice over] Pitts, is his name.
Robin: [voice over] What illness did he have?
[Cut to Pitts' house]
Pitts: Fever contagion.
Robin: You tell me the truth
Pitts: Sir Guy had business in London
Robin: He had business in the Holy Land.
[Cut to woods, Marian and Robin]
Robin: The Physician will talk, he did not treat Gisbourne.
Marian: [she lifts her hand and puts it on Robin's arm as she speaks] I do not know how to thank you
Robin: We'll think of something [He winks]
[Cut to Cave, Much, then to Will and Allan on Great North Road.]
Much: Where is Allan? And Will?!
[Cut to Knighton Hall INT]
Marian: I have a plan of my own.
[Cut to Locksley Manor, Marian in Night Watchman dress. Cartwheels into guards]
Edward: [voice over]The Night Watchman?
[Cut back to Marian at Knighton]
Marian: One final fling to make me more comfortable in my marriage.
[Cut to the Sheriff's Quarters, Nottingham Castle]
Edward: [voice over] The Sheriff has a scheme; he intends to kill the King.
[Cut to Locksley, Guy is swinging an axe at his bed chamber door. Once he has cut it he looks through, shot of Marian, he has his hand through the door. Think the Shining 'Here's Johnny']
Guy: Time to Play Night Watchman.
[Marian kicks Guy he falls backwards down the stairs to Robin and gang's feet. Marian runs down the stairs when she reaches Guy he punches out stabbing her]
[Cut back to Woods]
Robin: This Night Watchman business will be the death of you.
[Cut back to Locksley Guy is on the floor still holding a pretty dagger, covered in Marian's blood]
[Back to Forest, Marian collapses]
[Cut back to Locksley, Gut in same position as before]
Guy: Got yah!
[Cut back to the forest]
Marian: [very pained] Robin!
[Cut to cave, Robin is carrying Marian bridal style through the entrance.]
Robin: [yelled] John!
[Cut to Marian, led on the bed Djaq was 'fixing' her on]
Marian: It is not good is it?
Robin: Maybe not so good.
[Cut to Forest]
Djaq: She is going to die.
[Cut back to cave, Marian's heart is not beating; Djaq is whacking her chest to make it do so again]
Much: What are you doing you'll hurt her?
Djaq: Where she is, she can not feel a thing!
[She continues to whack Marian's chest]
[Cut to Forest, Robin on horse cantering through tress, physician behind him throwing out bandages]
[Cut back to cave]
Djaq: Where is the physician, I can not wait?
[Cut back to forest, Robin's running he finds a bandage and picks it up]
Robin: What have I done?
[Cut back to cave, Robin runs in and starts picking up bow and arrows.]
Robin: Unless I am badly mistaken, [voice over as the sheriff and Gisbourne arrive outside with loads of men on horses] The Sheriff and Gisbourne will arrive at any moment.
[Cut to Pitts]
Pitts: For your friend is dead.
Much: Dead?
[Cut to bed chamber of cave, Marian is lead all kinda deaded! Robin is teary, and goes to her side kneeling at her bed side. He begins running he thumbs and fingers over her cheeks]
Robin: Marian?
[He breaks down into tears]
Sheriff: [taunting] Robin? [voice over] Oh Robin? Come out come out wherever you are!
[Robin looks up, EVIL EYES!]
[Opening Titles]
[In forest, soldiers gather and prepare to kill outlaws, Sheriff and Gisbourne on horseback. Pretty Poniehs!]
Sheriff: You're getting slack my friend! [Much and John running down a hill outside cave weapons in hand] Could you have made it easier [Sheriff] if you by leading me by the hand, to your little hidey hole? [Evil Robin in cave] [Much and John down hill] A Clue: [Sheriff] No!
[Cut to Much and John hidden behind rocks.]
Much: Allan! Where are Allan and Will?
[Cut between Sheriff and Little John. Little John nods]
John: Now!
[they come up and take aim at the Sheriff and his men]
Much: [shouted] Stand!
Sheriff: Ooh!
Much: Stand or we shoot!
[The Sheriff looks around]
Sheriff: There are two of you!
Much: [shouted] Last warning!
Sheriff: How many do you think there could be of them?
Guy: A dozen or so at the most, [The Sheriff looks smug] of the inner circle.
Sheriff: And how many of the outer circle?
Guy: I don't know
Sheriff: you seem to misunderstand me, my friend.
[Djaq has a sword at Pitts' throat holding him against a wall]
Sheriff: [voice over] You do not have a bargaining position.
Djaq: Robin, what do I do with him? If he dies we have nothing against Gisbourne. [Shot of Robin angry eyes]
[Cut to Forest]
Sheriff: Wait! Why aren't they running? Why are they not running? Hood must be in there!
[Cut to Much and John]
Much: John? Now what?
[Cit to Sheriff]
Sheriff: Bored now. Kill them!
Guy: Positions!
[Guy's guards get into position]
[Cut to Much and John]
Much: John, I think we're gunna die!
John: It's a good day.
Much: What?
John: It's a good day to die!
Much: What?
John: It's a saying
Guy: [out of shot] Take aim!
Much: I hate sayings!
[Guards aim at Much and John]
[Random shots of Much, John Sheriff and guards]
[An arrow is shot! Killing the guard in front of the Sheriff! Robin!]
Sheriff: There's Hood! Shoot!
Much: [whispered, desperate] Robin!
[Robin shoots two more arrows holing them both to the bow at the same time, fired at different]
[Sheriff ducks hitting his head on the horses saddle pummel (It hurts) his tooth falls out]
[Lots more arrows from Robin and guards]
[Sheriff is clutching his mouth]
Sheriff: [muffled] My tooth!
[More arrows, Robin rolls commando style down the hill]
Sheriff: Where's my tooth?
[more Robin rolling, more arrows]
sheriff: Where's it? Where's my tooth?
[Robin shoots a guard who falls in front of the Sheriff who is crawling around on the floor beneath his horse]
Sheriff: What is this? Hood does not kill!
[Robin has four arrows at aim. He shoots one at a time]
[Djaq and Pitts emerge from different exits of the cave ducking from incoming arrows]
[Pitts holds up white material]
Pitts: Do not shoot!
[More arrows. Much dodges one, just missing him. Pitts runs from the Cave waving his white flag thing]
Pitts: Guy! It's me!
[Pitts is now in front of Robin, blocking his shot of Guy]
Robin: [growl/grr] Move!
Pitts: Sir Guy!
Guy: Kill him!
Pitts: [shouted] I have always served you well!
Guy: You served your purpose. [shouted] Kill him!
[Pitts pants, weird, then turns and runs away towards Robin, he is shot in the back, he falls forwards, dead]
[Robin takes aim at Guy; the Sheriff is still under his horse]
Sheriff: [shaking finger] [at Guy] Naughty Naughty!
[Guy ducks arrow, narrowly missing him]
[Guard shoots at John, gets his arm. John looks at it in anger, it does not hurt]
Guy: Second line forward!
[more guards come towards Robin]
[No more arrows, Much has his back to his rock. Robin pulls for his sword, drawing it, he runs down the hill into the crowd of guard]
Much: It's a good day!
[John and Much follow Robin and are then followed by Djaq]
[The Sheriff looks over his horse, the gang is coming right at them, and there are only 4 of them]
Sheriff: What is this? Is it suicide?
[The outlaws are ARGHing and running to wards them.]
Much: This is for King Riiiichaaarrrrrdd!
[A big fight between them all, arghing and uffing a lot, swords clash with swords and metal of armour etc]
[Surveying the scene on horse back Guy looks like he's just peed himself, robin comes from killing a few guards, and looks right at Guy. Guy is high and mighty on his horse until another arrow is fired! ALLAN!]
[Will and Allan join the fight, Djaq sounds like she has been stabbed with her war cry, Robin and all are fighting, The Sheriff is still hidden behind his horse]
Sheriff: Do something Gisbourne!
Guy: [turning on horse] Regroup!
[John hits people with his big ass staff, Allan is shooting more people]
Sheriff: Get me out of here!
[Will is finally in the thick of the fighting; Allan stopped shooting and is right behind him]
Allan: In the honour of King Richard!
[More fighting, the Sheriff finds his way back to his horse]
Guy: Get back!
[More fighting, John rips the arrow out of his arm, the sheriff and Guy run away!]
Sheriff: You blithering idiot you cost me my tooth!
[All the man have run away the Outlaws look around]
[Much and Djaq fall to their knees, all are panting. Robin leans on his sword and kneels on one knee]
John: Where were you two?
Allan: [tired] I can explain. This woman, a mother, was giving birth to a new born babe right.
Will: We were gunna take the hall. (I dunno how to spell it) Gisbourne's money, we were gunna take it to Scarborough.
Allan: Yeah, what can I say?
Will: [immediately angry at Allan] Sorry. Really
Allan: Well we're here now, saved your bacon actually. [Outlaws exchanged glances] What? We said sorry.
Much: Marian! Gisbourne stabbed her last night. And she is [he can't say it]
Robin: [blunt] She is dead. [Allan and Will get it] Marian's dead.
[Robin pushes his sword into the ground and heads for the cave]
[Cut to cave, Marian is dead led on the bed, the Outlaws enter]
Djaq: We need to bury her.
Robin: We must take her to Knighton hall, to her father. [pause] John I need you to. Djaq prepare her body. Will I need you to, [pause] I need you to make a coffin.
John: Shush shush, in good time, first we say good bye.
Will: She was a good woman, [Awh he's crying] kind, considerate.
Much: Good? Awh she was, she was...
[Allan steps forward]
Allan: She was alright. Yeah.
John: Her, we liked.
Robin: Her we loved, her I loved. And I never told her.
Much: Ah she knew, we all knew.
[Allan's twigging!]
Allan: I'm not being funny right, but she is breathing.
[He gestures for them to check, awh doesn't Will look cute sad?]
[Djaq holds a sword to Marian's nose]
Djaq: On the plate! She is breathing
Allan: Eeh! Told you!
[Robin goes to Marian's side]
Robin: What?
Djaq: Physician's draft, I have heard of this before. Hemlock. Too much and the body freezes. Breathing stops, body shuts down. But if one is young and strong, the body fights back. Comes back from the dead!
Allan: She died?
Djaq: And came back!
[Happiness!]
Much: That is...
[Awh cute shocked/crying Will]
[Robin takes a hold of Marians face]
Robin: Marian? Marian? Marian?!
[Marian's eyes open, she looks confused, awh bless]
Marian: Where've I been?
Robin: I don't know, but I'm glad your back!
[Happy tears/laughing]
[Cut to Nottingham castle]
Guy: It would be nice if we had dealt with Robin hood before the King returns.
Sheriff: [laugh]
Guy: What?
Sheriff: The King is not coming.
Guy: What do you mean the King is not coming?
Sheriff: He is in the Holy Land! [Guy does not look best pleased] I've arranged an impostor. Think about it, is the real King, who has spent God know how long fighting in the Holy Land going to stop of for a visit in Nottingham, a clue: no.
Guy: Why?
Sheriff: How many of our friends are against us? Hmm? Our pathetic Lords, Merton, Woodvale, Edward! How many pf them are scheming? Smiling at us? Lying? Biding their time? Nodding their heads? All the while preparing for the return of their King, their precious Richard the Lion Heart? Preparing, hmm, to turn against us the moment he walks through that door?
Guy: I don't know.
Sheriff: None of them have ever seen the King, so this way we find out, hmm, the plots bubble to the surface, the rats come scurrying out of the wood work.
Guy: Why didn't you tell me? Sheriff: Awh, oh sorry, nothing personal, hmm. Anyway, you should thank me, you get to marry the girl.
Guy: Yeah, but based on lie the King is not really coming.
Sheriff: Oh isn't that despicable, hmm, I don't know how you could live with yourself.
Guy: What if Edward is one of them?
Sheriff: [shouting] I will hang him!
[Cut to wood, John, Much and Robin are carrying a stretcher type thing with Marian on]
John: Swap!
[Allan and Will take the others places, Robin and Much run forward with Djaq.]
[Cut to Knighton Hall, John is carrying Marian into her room, outlaws in tow with Sir Edward, John places Marian on her bed, and she's out of it]
Edward: [barely audible] Marian! [normal] Robin this is my fault.
Robin: No, it's the Sheriff's and Gisbourne's.
Edward: When the King returns, the Sheriff will make his move. You know that. He will try to kill the King. Help me stop him. My daughter's wedding takes place in Locksley on Saturday. At the same time the Sheriff will meet the King at Nottingham [Djaq helps a wounded John] maybe he is thinking I and others will attend the wedding, and leave him free to assassinate the King. But we must forget the wedding. We must be in Nottingham.
Robin: We? I don't think so!
Edward: You, me and a number of loyal nobles. Now is the time to act. To stand up and defend our King, join us.
Robin: [angry] What about Marian? She can not be left to meet Gisbourne at the alter.
[Will enters, he's been on look out duty, again]
Will: [whisper] Gisbourne!
Edward: [worried] I'll get rid of him!
[Guy gets off his horse and leads it, Edward runs down the stairs and opens the door to Guy.]
Edward: [off screen] Sir Guy!
Guy: [off screen] I've come to see Marian, there is something I need to see her about.
Edward: [off screen] She is indisposed
Guy: indisposed?
Edward: Sleeping
Guy: At this hour?
Edward: She is [pause] unwell.
Guy: She is no here.
Edward: She is here.
Guy: I knew it, I knew she would not keep her promise. She can not run from me.
Edward: Sir guy I assure you-
Guy: Do not Sir Guy me. Where is she? [Steps into the house]
Edward: She has been injured, I do not know how, perhaps a fall in the woods.
Guy: Do not lie to me. [He enters and goes up the stairs]
Edward: I am not lying!
[Guy storms into Marian's room. Much hides behind the door, Bless, as the camera turns we see that the room is empty, bar Marian]
Guy: Ahh
Edward: I told you, [He sees various Outlaws]
[Guy walks to Marian's bedside]
Guy: She looks pale. Marian? [Marian opens her eyes] shush shush.[Cut to Marian's POV we see Robin hidden above her bed behind the green netting, Guy in same shot] It's alright only me. She is unwell, I will send for a physician.
Edward: No need. I am sure rest and recuperation. [He pushes John's foot under the bed with his] Perhaps the excitement of the wedding.
Guy: Is that true? The wedding excites her?
[Marian and Robin shots, Robin looks kinda scary!]
Edward: You wanted to tell her something?
Guy: Yes. Tell her, I am also... [pause] Goodbye.
Edward: Goodbye Sir Guy!
[Guy leaves and walks off out of the house]
[Once the door slams the Outlaws come out of hiding, Much from behind the door, Allan in through the window he has just been hanging from, Will from the chimney, John From under the bed and Robin jumps down. As this is happening Much speaks]
Much: Send for a physician, he just killed one! He is revolting!
Marian: [weary] He killed one?
[Allan made it through the window, he sighs and pants]
Much: Yes Pitts [there's a knocking on the box, Allan and Will lift the lid and let Djaq out.] We thought he would announce Gisbourne, but he was a traitor. He was also revolting, I am glad he is dead.
Allan: Yeah but she's got to marry Gisbourne now. Tomorra!
Much: True.
Robin: Marian, I will find another way out of this.
Edward: Robin, I need to speak to you. [they exit onto the landing] Do you really have another way out for Marian?
Robin: I will think of something!
Edward: If you can not stop it then do not speak of it.
Robin: Once Marian is married it can never be undone!
Edward: Then what is your plan?
Robin: Edward, I will think of something
Edward: No! That is not good enough. You will raise Marian's hopes, you will raise her hopes only to see them dashed. If you care about her, spare her lad! If you can not save I beg of you do the right thing. Let her go!
[Robin looks up teary]
Robin: Do you know something, I am sick of doing the right thing!
[He runs off]
Edward: Robin! I need you help! [Voice over Locksley village shot] Robin!
[Robin is sat in the long grass. He looks solemn and lonely, and I just want to hug him!]
[Much comes along the hero that he is]
Much: I knew you'd be here!
Robin: [angsty] It is my village
[Much sits down next to Robin, he is happy]
Much: Remember the times we used to sit up here. Sit up here and say there was no finer place in England.
Robin: Gisbourne is stealing my life.
Much: And you must let him. You heard Edward. The King is in danger. And what is Locksley if England can't be saved?
Robin: Right now I care more about Locksley than England.
Much: It isn't Locksley is it, it's Marian? We must let her go, I say we I mean you.
Robin: there must be a way.
Much: Robin, the king is coming back, and if we can stop the Sheriff from messing things up, England will be right again!
Robin: Will it?
Much: Yes! The Sheriff will be out! You'll be in! We're talking days surely. I mean, you'll have your lands back! You'll be at Locksley, I'll be at Bonchurch. It's not a huge estate but it's big enough. A man could easily get lost on it easily.
Robin: You know something, if you want to get lost, why don't you start practising now?
Much: you don't mean that. [Robin laughs, he's not joking] You know a smaller man, would be offended, a smaller man would be wounded.
Robin: but you see, there is no smaller man Much. You are the smaller man, all you care about is the roof over your head, the food in your belly, and you speak every facile thought that comes into your head. You're a pox on my skin, I keep scratching but you never go away.
[Much's bottom lip quivers, and he pushes Robin hard, he falls to the side]
Much: You go away.
[robin sits on his own, watching Locksley]
[Cut to Knighton Hall, Marian is slowly walking down the stairs]
Edward: Marian.
Marian: What is happening with Merton and the other nobles?
Edward: They are ready. Making preparations. Marian: Will you get word to the King?
Edward: If we can, if not we will protect him as he arrives in Nottingham.
Marian: It is so dangerous. Any move against the Sheriff, if you were to be caught.
Edward: I have waited to long Marian.
Marian: And Robin?
Edward: what about him?
Marian: Well, he used to be in charge of the King's private guard, he will assist you.
Edward: I think not.
Marian: Why?
Edward: He wants to stop your wedding.
Marian: He can not.
[Edwards brings Marian soup and a bread roll]
Edward: I have told him.
Marian: Do you believe that Gisbourne went to the Holy Land? Tried to kill the King? Attacked Robin?
Edward: I do not know what to believe anymore.
Marian: Will you take me too him?
Edward: Robin?
Marian: no Gisbourne, I need to ask him
[A horse drawn carriage rolls through Locksley, Robin looks up to see it, its Marian, going to Guy. She steps out of the cart as:]
Guy: Get out and scour the land for the Night Watchman. I want him found by sunset. [He looks around and turns to see Marian] Marian?
Marian: I am quite well.
Guy: Umm a robbery, a small thing, but, uh, I've taken extra precautions, you're entirely safe.
Marian: I hope you have not lost anything important.
Guy: [Evil] I'll get it back.
[they walk into Locksley Manor]
Marian: Sir Guy I must ask you a difficult question.
Guy: I'm intrigued
Marian: Did you try and kill the King in the Holy Land?
Guy: Pardon?
Marian: Is it true, that last year you were not in quarantine with a fever, but you travelled to the Holy Land. You and others dressed as Saracens and tried to kill the King?
Guy: Robin Hood.
Marian: What of him?
Guy: You've been talking to him?
Marian: This is a rumour that has been circulating and I need an answer. I could not marry you if it were true.
Guy: Rumours Marian. You need to be more careful who you listen to. The day the King returns is a day of joy for me. It is the day that I marry you.
Marian: I am not sure.
Guy: Well you must be sure.
Marian: I...
Guy: Have you not seen what you do to me? My passion for you.
[Guy leans in, he kissed her, she does not want it and does no reciprocate, not that Guy pays attention to this. She isn't pleased. She pulls away quickly, it lasts micro seconds.]
Guy: I have never felt like this before.
Marian: I must go.
Guy: Stay
Marian: I must go.
Guy: Not until you tell me you believe me.
Marian: I believe you. [She half smiles and leaves]
[Guy sits down in his big man chair and breathes deeply]
[Cut to Knighton Hall, Marian's Night Watchman mask is thrown into a fire]
[Marian drops the rest of her uniform in front of the fire, she looks down as her mask burns]
Robin: How are you feeling?
Marian: I've been to see Guy, I challenged him.
[Adorable serious look from Robin]
Robin: Let me guess, you asked him if he was a traitor, he said he wasn't, you believed him.
Marian: Yes. [Pause] [Robin is now in her house leaning against the post of the stairs] Robin I think you've been wrong about him.
Robin: No, trust me, I've been right about him.
Marian: Maybe the difference between you and he is not so huge. And isn't that your thesis, the Robin Hood world view.
Robin: What thesis?
Marian: That one man is much like another. That the poor are no different from the wealthy, but just as deserving. Why can't you apply your principles to those who have been deprived in another way, deprived of love?
Robin: [laughing slightly] Deprived of love. [He walks past Marian to the fire place, her back to him his to her, she clenches her fists in annoyance, he sees the mask] The Night Watchman?
Marian: this is good bye Robin. It is time for us to both grow up and accept our lot in life.
Robin: Are you marrying him?
Marian: I am marrying him.
Robin: Very well.
Marian: [shocked] Pardon?
Robin: You said grow up [he walks past her and heads out] and I am growing up.
[Marian looks hurt and turns, she wants him to come back]
Marian: Robin? Where are you going?
[He's out of there, heading for his horse.]
[She is very annoyed at herself for letting him go, she blinks, fighting back tears, and slaps her hand up against the pillar Robin was leant against]
[Cut to somewhere dark and dingy, the Nobles are gathered who are planning against the Sheriff]
Merton: Arms? What about weapons?
Edward: We will make sure all out men are armed under their cloaks. I will alert the King's private guard as best I can.
Merton: I am anxious, what if the Sheriff is planning-
Edward: Remember, the Sheriff will try to kill the King tomorrow. WE will have the King's private guard on our side, and not just that. We will have right on our side. Justice! My lords we have been biding our time for too long.
[There is a knock at the door, Merton answers with a sword at the ready. It is Much and the other Outlaws]
Much: We are Robin Hood's men, here to protect the King.
Edward: Let them in, they are Robin's men! WE can trust them! Much served the King in Antilog. Welcome Much. Robin is not with you?
Much: Robin is, Robin is not himself.
John: there is no Robin.
[There is silent agreement between the men, worried glances are exchanged]
[Cut to Locksley at night, a view of the village, the image switches to Robin by his tree. It fades to day. He watches the village, disheartened, it is Saturday. The villagers are chatting and finishing the church decorating, Guy walks out from the entrance of the Church]
Thornton: [he coughs] Uh, Master? About your family...
Guy: I have no family, Thornton. [Thornton turns to leave] Thornton? Are you married?
Thornton: Alas my wife has died sir.
Guy: Did she understand you?
Thornton: I don't know, I like to think she did.
Guy: that is the thing isn't it. To understand.
Thornton: Ah yes indeed sir.
[Cool shot of them reflected in water]
Guy: I have committed a crime, grave crimes.
Thornton: Really?
Guy: Meaningless crimes. But by taking Marian in holy wedlock, I will wash away those crimes.
[Cut to Knighton Hall, Marian exits in her dress. It is Olive green with some sort of floral pattern. Her vial is netted, again floral, much like my Grandma's net curtains... She goes to her wedding coach, her Father stands waiting.]
Guy: [voice over] Her pure heart, will cleanse mine.
[Marian reaches her father]
Marian: Be careful.
Edward: I will.
[Cut to Locksley, Marian is arriving. Guy is still outside, the idiot that he is, and he advances towards Marian's carriage. Somebody opens the door for her. She begins to step out. Robin is watching from his spot by the tree.]
Guy: I hope the decorations of the church please you.
Marian: they do.
Guy: I hope I please you.
Marian: You should not be here.
Guy: Who should be here?
Marian: You should be inside the church waiting for me.
Guy: Oh, forgive me I was unaware.
Marian: Have you never been to a wedding before.
Guy: No.
Marian: Oh, Wait inside for me.
[Guy walks off to do so, but he turns around to talk to her]
Guy: Marian, I have dreamed of this day.
Marian: Go.
Guy: Sir Edward?
Marian: He was needed on business, he sends his apologies. [Guy laughs] What?
Guy: Nothing.
[He walks to the church, Marian is not smiling, she knows who should be there instead of Guy. And he's sat by a tree not so far away. The bells are ringing. Marian advances to the church. Robin is still sat watching. He's a bit of a useless lump really.]
[Cut to Nottingham castle the hordes are assembling for the King return, the Outlaws are walking into the castle, Edward on a horse as villagers chatter happily. The gang are wearing monk type gowns, hoods and all.]
Will: This is strange. The gang without Robin.
Much: [bitter] It is fine, he has made his decision. It's fine. [He stops, Allan walks into the back of him]
Allan: What are you doing?
Much: There is something I have to do. I must find Robin.
[He runs off to save the day leaving the other Outlaws behind to do what's right by them, not Robin.]
John: Come on it's up to us.
[Much is out of Nottingham, running up the hill outside the town. To the Night Watchman music...? As he nears the top of the hill he sees 'The King's Guard' and the 'King']
Much: [breathless] My majesty. [he smiles, and starts waving his arms] Haaaaaaaa! Your Majesty welcome home! [He runs towards the guards, they keep running, the push him aside and he falls.] I am Much! I fought in the King's guard, I'm... [He spies an impostor. WTF? It's not the King Once they have past him he stands. Marian or Edward?] Edward. [He turns to face the direct he was going] Marian! [He turns back and forth]
[Cut back to Nottingham. The crowds are cheering, everybody is happy! The King arrives in front of the Sheriff, the lords are smiling, happy, the King removed the chain mail from in front of his face]
Sheriff: You're Majesty. [He bows and the crowd follows his lead] Welcome to Nottinghamshire the King's own county.
King: We are glad to be back on English soil.
Sheriff: I'm sure we are.
[He smiles manically and it cuts to Nottingham Castle Great Hall. The King steps onto a platform and addresses the people that have assembled there.]
King: My loyal subjects. We have survived the Holy Land. And we are grateful for you're warm welcome. However there are those amongst us who are disloyal. [The crowd gasps] Who would plot against authority. Who do not understand law and order. WE must wash of them now. [He looks at the crowds, the Sheriff is smug and looking at the Lords, the King turns and points to him] Arrest Sheriff Vaysey!
Sheriff: Me?
King: Take him to the dungeons!
Sheriff: Me? Me? You blithering oath! Me? Arrest them, arrest all of them! You idiotic buffoon!
[The outlaws laugh, Allan makes an oh expression John smiles]
[Cut to the church, Marian is walking through the entrance down the aisle. Locksley villagers are throwing petals over her. Robin stands, picks up his pack of belongings to go.]
[Cut to Nottingham Castle, the King sits in a throne type chair.]
King: Good subjects. We must judge the Sheriff according to law. In such a case we shall hear French evidence.
Allan: [whisper] French evidence? What?
Announcer: Walter, Lord of Merton!
[Merton nods and says something inaudible to Edward. He walks onto the platform, kisses the Kings ring]
[Cut to Locksley church, Marian and Guy are knelt in front of the priest.]
Priest: Marian, [French, I think, something I can not translate] Guy Crispin Gisbourne [more French/Latin]
[Cut to a hall of Nottingham Castle. Merton is walking down]
Announcer: Walter, Lord of Merton, go left, a gouche, to give evidence for the Sheriff, go right, a droit, to give evidence against the Sheriff.
[Merton turns right]
Sheriff: [in disguise] [low voice] Do you wish to give evidence against the Sheriff?
Merton: I do.
Sheriff: [he raises his head] Gooood. God save the king!
[He reaches forwards and stabs Merton, Merton screams...]
[Cut to Locksley church, Much runs into the entrance, yey much! He grabs a hold of the rope attached to the bell, and starts swinging as the service continues]
Much: Stop the wedding! [he rings the bell a lot] Stop the wedding!
[Cut to Robin walking off with his horse, he stops and turns he can hear Much screaming and ringing the bell.]
Much: [voice over]Stop the wedding! He's not the king! [Cut to church] the King is an impostor! The King is not in Nottingham!
Priest: It does not matter if the King is in Nottingham or not, it has no bearing on a wedding!
Marian: [at Guy, bitter] Did you know this?
Guy: the priest is right, it has no bearing on our happiness.
Marian: You lied to me! What else have you lied about?
[Guards are now on Much]
Much: He went to the holy land! He tried to kill the King!
Guy: I have done wrong. But you will wash away my sins.
Marian: But if it not the King...
Guy: It is a rouse by the Sheriff, to flush out his enemies.
Marian: What will happen to them? [He looks at her, she panics] My father! I must go to Nottingham!
Guy: Your father will be safe! I have made provisions. My in law will be spared, you see my influence it benefits you. As my father in law he is protected. [stern] as my father in law.
Marian: You are cruel!
Much: this is wrong! [Marian looks at him, Thank you]
Priest: you must have legal grounds to object or remain silent...
Much: I have moral grounds!
Guy: Get him out of here!
Much: this man is a traitor and a liar! It is unlegal! And [pause] Her heart belongs to another! [Now Marian is teary, god bless you Much!] Let her tell you that. Marian, my lady, tell them.
Guy: Yes Marian, tell them. [threatening] Remember your father.
Marian: It is not true. [Much: *eh?* quivering lip!] I am sorry, I know you mean well, but my heart belongs [pained pause] here.
Guy: [to priest] Get on with it!
Much: [totally disbelieving] WHAT! [He's being dragged away by soldiers] I don't understand! This is surely some mistake!
Priest: Do you have a ring?
Much: [out of shot] He needs you! Mariaaaan! [*splash* he gets thrown into the pond, we do not see this]
[Guy lifts her hand and puts on the ring to her left wedding finger, the correct finger.]
Guy: Wise decision. In time you will thank me,
[she takes the ring from her left hand and places it on her right wedding finger.]
Priest: No, the left hand, the ring must go on the left hand!
Marian: No, No! The right is better!
[she pulls off her vial, and executes a prefect right hook to Guy's jaw, he goes flying, Marian legs it from the church, when she reaches outside, who is there to whisk her away but her knight in shining hoodie, Robin, riding along very fast on his horse]
Robin: Do you take this man, and this horse, as your route out of here?
Marian: [Running from the church] I do!
[Robin is still riding, Marian has reached the roady part of the land, Much is climbing out of the pond]
Much: Master! The king is not the King, he as impostor.
Robin: A trap, I knew it! Who's there?
Much: [tired, out of breath] Everyone, the gang.
Marian: Robin my father! He leads the rebellion.
[Robin helps Marian onto the back of his horse, bless, she winces, a little pain as she climbs on, he kicks the horse on and they begin to canter away, in the mean time Much has found and horse and gets on and slowly follows. Marian holds her train vial up in the air as they go dropping it to the floor, into the dirt.]
[Cut to Nottingham Castle]
announcer: Former Sheriff, Edward of Knighton!
[Allan steps forward]
Allan: Tell them how it is Edward!
Edward: I will.
[He follows the same route as Merton.]
[Cut to Locksley church, guards run up to Gisbourne]
guard: We could catch her for you sir.
Guy: [He sees her ring on the matted floor, he bends at the knees and picks it up] No. Let her go.
[Cut to Nottingham, Edward kisses the King's ring and exits the hall.]
Announcer: Lord Knighton, go left a gouche to give evidence for the Sheriff, go right a droit to give evidence against the Sheriff.
[The King is watching the doorway as he leaves, spookeh man!]
[Cut to the outer wall of Nottingham, the gates have been closed since Much's exit, Marian and Robin ride up with Much beside them on another horse, the slow and stop at the end of the path]
Robin: We can't be seen together. [[Though you already have]]
Much: We'd never get in anyway. [[It is likely you would they always let you in!]]
Marian: I'll try the east gate. [She dismounts the horse with ease]
Robin: We'll try the west.
[the canter off, Marian runs the opposing way]
Robin: Marian! [He's coming back!]
Marian: Robin!
[She runs back to him, and him cantering on his horse, he leans down, and kisses her, you have no idea how hard it is to lean on a horse and not off balance, with you saddle going round with you! It last about 2 seconds, I mean please we got more Doctor/Rose action than this! Anyway, he smiles at her, she smiles at him, he kicks his horse and off he rides. She stand smiling for a while before turning and running.]
[Dramatic music as Edward walk a long way to the room the sheriff is in, one can only assume this is all in liquid time]
[Much and Robin come to a nice high wall, and there is convenient rope hanging on a cart, Robin picks it up threading it to an arrow handing his bow to Much]
Robin: [as he throws the bow to him] Much!
Much: Climbing [he's looking up the wall] You know I hate climbing!
[Edward comes to the two rooms he turns right, Watch out Eddy!]
Sheriff: Do you wish to give evidence against the Sheriff?
[Two arrows are shot, we see Robin, the Sheriff looks up, ah bugger!]
Robin: [He laughs] A Clue: [He leans forwards menacingly] No!
[Robin turns and walks out, and starts at a run to the Great hall, the Sheriff is stuck to the table trying to follow him. Edward Much and Robin leg it down the corridor to the hall, making it there Much runs onto the platform yelling]
Much: It's a trap! It's a trap! This is not the King!
Man: Arrest that impostor!
[The outlaws all look at each other]
Allan: I knew they smelt funny!
King: [he points at Much] Get him!
Much: [to outlaws] Run!
[the outlaws run as Robin makes his way down the side of the hall, John Djaq, Will and Allan are stopped by guards,
John: No/Go... [I can't figure out which]
[They run toward Robin bar much who is stuck on the platform; Robin hits a guard with his bow, forcing his friends up the stairs before him]
Robin: Shall we?
Allan: I thought we were out of a job! Nice to have you back!
Robin: It's nice to be back! [he smiles at his friends running up after them he is stopped at the top by the Sheriff]
Sheriff: Not so fast my friend! [Robin looks around, oh crap! Sheriff's got a knife to Much's neck] Sorry to burst your bubble Hood, but I'm sure you know how this goes hmm..? Hands up. Spoilt my game Hood? Tut Tut!
Robin: John catch! [He throws more rope to his friends, Allan catches it and begins to tie it around the guards in his grasp, Robin takes an arrow from his quiver, and attaches the rope quickly, he takes aim at something metal, chink, Marian arrives, chink, chink thunk! It goes into something by the Sheriff's feet. Much looks down and smiles, the Sheriff looks, it's in-between his toes in his saddles. Much runs. Allan kicks the guards off the balcony and the Sheriff gets hoisted upwards. Robin still has aim]
Robin: Everybody still if you please. [Marian mime with him] I think I can safely say, an audience with the King, [pause] has been suspended! [Marian is smiling at him; he looks round to his friends.] Come on Lads, let's go home! [He looks at Marian one last time and winks. Leaving with all the outlaws]
[Cut to the outside the courtyard with the scaffold, they are walking down the steps when Robin looks around a few seconds later, they all leap]
Outlaws: YEAH!
